Our Mission
Maiden Psych was born through a desire to provide a bespoke individualised performance psychology service to individuals and teams alike. At Maiden Psych we understand that sport and performance at all levels from amateur right up to the elite comes with many different challenges, both mentally and physically.

Our goal at Maiden Psych is to provide the right tools and appropriate environment to enable all athletes, teams, coaches and organisations to thrive, develop strong personal mental well-being and achieve peak performance.

Through our strong background in coaching and teaching we know how important gaining those extra 1% of performance are. Our aim is to develop these extra ‘1%’ in all our clients through enjoyable, engaging, innovative, and evidence-based sessions; allowing them to flourish in their personal and professional lives.
What to expect
At Maiden Psych our purpose is to provide all our clients with the right environment and tools to develop. We take pride in developing innovative, engaging, and enjoyable sessions to cater for everyone’s needs. All sessions we provide will be underpinned by cutting-edge research ensuring all participants are exposed to exciting practical solutions.

Our workshops and group delivery is designed to be in a relaxed environment in which participants will be encouraged and inspired to develop their own new and innovative ideas to counter any issues they may be facing ensuring total ownership over any new learnings. All our individual sessions are designed in a similar manner, providing a relaxed and personable environment, where clients are made to feel comfortable and encouraged to independently develop and apply practical teachings to improve their personal and professional lives with our guidance.
Our team
James Maiden
Qualified Sport & Exercise Psychologist
James Maiden is a Chartered Sport & Exercise Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
James' previous applied work has been with a variety of individuals from amateur to elite, to elite youth athletes and coaches, to academic professionals. James currently works with the junior squads at Gloucestershire County Golf Union.

James has worked with Southampton Women's FC, in the 4th tier of women's football (2019-2022), providing specialised psychological support to first team athletes and coaches through educational workshops and on-the-field training. James also has experience at the elite end of football, working with the first team and youth academy at Eastleigh FC, of the National League. Through this work James has delivered psychology workshops and focus group sessions to players and coaches across the two settings.
​
Other experiences have also included working with elite athletes at Loughborough University, specifically the Badminton performance squad, many of whom have represented England at youth & senior level. This involved providing workshops and one-to-one support to players and staff. Further work has included working alongside academics at Liverpool Hope University and Liverpool John Moores University developing research as well as academics at Southampton Solent University.

Further experiences have allowed James to work with the Para Football Academy at Southampton FC, a pathway to disability football with England, providing educational workshops and on-the-field training.

James currently works at the University of Winchester supporting the Sport & Exercise Psychology team with technical support in-class and for research. James also lectures on the second and third years of Sport & Exercise Psychology degree, whilst also working with renowned professionals such as Dr Jo Batey (an injury and transitions expert) on consultancy through the Universities consultancy branch.

Alongside his psychology work James is also a qualified football coach working with Chelsea FC, and has undertaken training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) when he worked with FOCUS a charity working with children and families with Autism.

James is focused and driven to provide all his clients with the best possible service.

Megan Mcilorum
Administrator
Megan is a major link in the chain keeping the consultancy running smoothly on a day-to-day basis. Providing essential support to James, Megan is often the first port of call for all email enquiries. Megan always puts people's health and well-being first and is a key part of the team.
Megan's ability to do this largely comes from her teaching philosophy of always putting her students needs before her own. Megan's hard-work and dedication to her teaching role are key qualities we look to translate to the work we do at Maiden Psych.
